Hey friends! Guess what week it is...REVIEW WEEK! :) That means no Wonders test! This week in class, we will be focusing on the four non-fiction text structures: compare/contrast, cause/effect, problem/solution, and sequence. Not only will we be identifying them, we will learn how to best comprehend the information presented. PLUS...even though there will not be a Wonders test, we will have a paper-pencil exam on the four text structures on Friday. I'm excited for a week of learning with you! Check out this link: Nonfiction Text Features
In ALL language classes this week, students will be completing a biography project/persuasive essay. Be looking for more info on this at the first of the week. Finally, check out the "Upcoming Events" tab for important January dates. As always, thanks for visiting! :) ~ Mrs. Lee

Hey everyone! Hope you got to sleep in and rest on this gloomy, stormy Saturday. :) This week in class, students will be reading some expository texts centering around the environment and keeping our world clean. Within each text, students will be working to identify the main idea as well as some key details that support that main idea. Students will also be looking for synonyms and antonyms within each text. Students, I encourage to think back to past context clue lessons. If you do not know a word in the passage we are reading, check for context clues. Sometimes, an author will give you a synonym or antonym to help you define the unknown word. I hope you will check out the helpful links tab for fun videos and extra practice.
***One of the links I included at the bottom is to ixl.com. All SMS students have a username and password to access this website. Even if your student can't remember their login information, please encourage them to utilize the links. The website will give them a limited amount of very meaningful practice on each skill, even without an account.*** Helpful Links Flocabulary Main Idea Rap Review of finding main idea in nonfiction text - GOOD TIPS! Students received next week's study guide today because we will be out on Monday. Information about AR goals also came home today. Students will have an entire nine weeks to achieve those goals. There was also information about AR bonus points (woop woop!)
This upcoming week in reading, we will be diving into some biographies. I love this genre, and I hope y'all will as well! We'll also be reviewing how to summarize a text and how to use paragraph clues. Our new skill is Cause and Effect. There are some awesome (and fun!) resources on cause and effect in the helpful links section today. PLEASE take advantage of those. :) ***I stopped posting language updates here because I only have 24 students in my language class. All of the 6th grade teachers are not on the same skill or spelling words in our language program, so I didn't want to confuse anyone by posting a language skill or words to study. If your child is in my language class and ever wants extra practice, please let me know!*** Helpful Links Context Clues Practice Game Link to TONS of context clues printables! Jackpot!
