Happy Hallow's Eve weekend, and Happy Homecoming to my JSU Gamecocks! I'm very thankful for this restful weekend. This upcoming week is our last full week before Thanksgiving Break (see upcoming events tab)! So, let's discuss our focus skills. Last week, students read stories told from a first person point of view; this week, we are moving to the third person point of view. Narrators of stories written in third person POV act as outsiders looking in. Pronoun clues to look for in those stories are he, him, she, his, her, hers, they, them, and their. Our second focus skill for the week is Greek and Latin suffixes. The key idea for students to understand is that when you add a suffix, the meaning of the root word can completely change.
Spelling Words: brutal, secure, panic, cabin, fever, voter, vanish, nylon, detect, resist, labor, focus, rival, recite, topic, amid, unit, rotate, vital, lament Vocabulary Words benefit - an advantage deftly - done in a skillful, quick, and clever way derision - ridicule or lack of respect eaves - the lower overhanging edges of a roof expertise - having mastered a skill impudence - behavior that is bold, rude, and disrespectful legacy - something handed down from the past symmetry - beauty and balance in shape and appearance Helpful Links: The Apostrophe Trick - FANTASTIC VIDEO!
